On this episode of Whole Life Healing, Dr. Alex discusses the idea of having a great life and the steps that we can take to make our lives great for us.
The questions to ask yourself (pray and/or meditate) on the quest for a great life are:
- What is keeping me from being great or having a great life?
- What is keeping each of my relationships (spouse, parent, friend, boss, child, etc.) from being great?
- What would have to change in order for me to have a great life?
- What internal things need to change? What should I start or stop doing?
Perhaps one of the most broadly recognized stories of greatness is portrayed in the movie Citizen Kane, where the main character, Charles Foster Kane, delivers the key line “If I hadn’t been very rich, I might have been a really great man.” Time and again, we have seen and heard stories of people who threw away the simplicity of their lives and their deep relationships in order to progress in their careers and become rich only to find that they are lonely and unfulfilled with their riches in the end.
It is important to remember that while we may measure other people’s greatness by things they have attained externally, greatness is a very personal and internal thing that is specific to each person. Trying to compare yourself to others will only lead to disappointment. When you give up your desire for external greatness in exchange for working on your internal harmony with spiritual principles, you are truly on the path to greatness in your life.

7 Beliefs or Conscience

On this episode, Dr. Alex encourages to ask ourselves the question “What is leading my life: beliefs or conscience?”
Your Challenge. Ask yourself, meditate and/or pray:
- What areas of conflict do I see in my life between my conscience and my beliefs?
- What areas of harmony do I see?
Dr. Alex explains that the conscience is never wrong; it is the law that is written on the heart by which we will be judged. The conscience is also considered the “love compass” that speaks to our hearts in a whisper, meaning that you will not hear it if you are not listening. Additionally, if you are listening but not obeying, it will stop speaking to you, and you will have to change your life’s course in order to get its directions back.
Dr. Alex also teaches us that we always do what we believe, with no exceptions. You can have competing beliefs about something, but you will ultimately do what you truly believe. If you are doing things that are destructive to yourself or others, it is crucial to pinpoint the destructive belief so you can address it and shift it into a constructive one.
There are 3 types of beliefs:
- Placebo: believing a positive lie that can have incredible short-term results but cannot be maintained long-term
- No-cebo: believing a negative lie which can prevent something good from happening, even if it was possible
- De facto: actual reality or truth regardless of what people say or feel; always in harmony with conscience
Your beliefs and your conscience should always be the same to maintain the harmony of your moral (what/why) and practical (how) centers of life. Dr. Alex encourages us to ask at this point “What areas of conflict do I see in my life between my conscience and my beliefs? What areas of harmony do I see?” By attaining harmony between these two areas, you are on the path to whole life healing: mind, body, and spirit.

Today I am going to talk about being uncomfortable and learning to enjoy it. I address the definition of the word comfortable and the idea of a psuedo community. Topics of chaos, emptiness and true community surface.

- Say "uncomfortable and enjoying it" to yourself. See how it makes you feel.
- Ask yourself the following question. Are your attempts to be comfortable in the short term making you uncomfortable in the long term?
